Everest the Chicken Needs a Prosthetic Leg
In a heartwarming and innovative initiative, students in our PACE class worked to design and create a custom prosthetic leg for Everest.
This process involved students analyzing Everest's unique physical requirements, brainstorming designs, and using CAD (computer-aided design) software before printing their 3D prosthetics.
This experience connected classroom learning to real-world application, giving students hands-on experience with advanced technology while working on a meaningful and impactful project.
9th graders participate in Space Debris Challenge
Guided by the principles of NASA’s LunaRecycle Challenge, the 9th graders were tasked with designing devices to remove space debris. They utilized a combination of AI tools and Fusion/TinkerCAD software to create conceptual imagery and prototype designs.
Each team presented their findings and pitched their solutions to a panel of "NASA administrators," represented by their teachers.
The top designs were selected for 3D printing, providing students with a tangible outcome of their hard work and innovation. We were even lucky enough to have a doctoral student in aerospace engineering from Georgia Tech come into our classroom as a guest speaker.
Board Game & Video Game Design
Patriot Academy 10th graders have been collaborating to create board games. These games are based entirely on their own brainstorming and design ideas. They are required to make the games suitable for multiple players and use Artificial Intelligence to help develop ideas and generate artwork. Each game will have its own set of written directions and go through a series of beta tests to help teams troubleshoot.
In addition, these students are working on a video game design project. Students are using Godot, an open-source game development platform, to create a 2D platformer video game. They are exploring game mechanics and level design while learning GDScript, Godot's built-in programming language, which is similar to Python.
